Dermal Fillers
Dermal fillers, also called soft-tissue fillers, are a category of injectables that add volume beneath the surface of the skin. Along with skin sagging and loss of elasticity, volume loss is a normal part of aging. The loss of volume leads to deep facial folds and wrinkles, hollows across the face, as well as skin that is less smooth.
The dermal fillers we offer at The MAC include:
Juvéderm Collection • Restylane Collection • Revanesse Collection • Sculptra • Kybella
Which dermal filler is right for me?
Dermal fillers are directly injected into the skin to plump or smooth the area, so wrinkles, lines, folds, or skin depressions fade away.
We offer an array of dermal fillers at The MAC. Each filler is formulated for specific facial areas and may be hyaluronic acid-based, such as Juvéderm or Restylane. Our nurse injectors will work with you to determine the best dermal filler for your specific needs.
What can you treat with dermal fillers?
Dermal fillers can be very helpful in those with early signs of aging, or as a value-added part of facial rejuvenation surgery. They may also be used for:
• Plumping thin lips
• Enhancing shallow contours
• Softening facial creases and wrinkles
• Improving the appearance of recessed scars
• Reconstructing contour deformities in the face
• Decrease or remove the shadow of the lower lids
RHA®collection
The RHA® collection includes hyaluronic acid fillers with dymanic abilities, meaning they move with your facial movements and allow for natural results. This leaves a seamless look both at rest and with movement. RHA2, RHA 3 and RHA 4 are great for fine lines and volume loss of varying severity. RHA® Redensity is approved for superficial treatment of fine lines such as peri-oral lines, know as “smokers lines.”
Sculptra®
This biostimulator causes your skin to produce new collagen in specifically chosen areas. Sculptra’s collagen stimulation action restores volume and rebalances facial contours in a way no other product can. A favorite among our patients, Sculptra creates a face-lift effect by causing your skin to produce more of its own collagen, and results provide 25+ months of longevity.
JuvEderm®
This hyaluronic gel filler is used for lip plumping, wrinkle filling, and full-face contouring. Its soft, smooth formulations contain lidocaine for enhanced injection comfort. We now offer Juvéderm Ultra XC®, Juvéderm Ultra Plus XC®, and Juvéderm Voluma®.
Restylane®
The original hyaluronic acid gel for wrinkles, earlobe restoration, lines and folds. This injectable is integrated with lidocaine, which instantaneously numbs the injected area, making corrections comfortable and easily tolerable. Restylane provides 12 months of longevity.
Restylane® Lyft
Used for chin and jawline contouring, this “sister” product to Restylane contains the same hyaluronic acid, but the construction is of larger gel particles and a higher concentration of hyaluronic acid. This makes Restylane Lyft best suited for mid to deeper dermal filling for facial folds, deep wrinkles and supportive type volume correction. Expect 12 months longevity with this filler. FDA-approved for mid-face volume and deep folds.
Restylane® Refyne and Defyne
These new fillers feature an innovative technology called XpresHAn (pronounced “expression”) which gives these gels more flexibility and support than other Hyaluronic Acid fillers. This allows the gels to move with your skin providing a very natural look with your facial movements and expressions. Both Refyne and Defyne deliver 12 months of longevity.
Where can you use dermal fillers?
Dermal fillers can be used for an increasingly wide array of cosmetic problems, including:
Chin augmentation
Profile balancing
Jawline contouring
Nasolabial folds (extending from the bottom of your nose to the corners of your mouth)
Marionette lines (extending downward from the corners of your mouth)
Hollow cheeks
Thinned, wrinkled skin on the hands
Lines around the mouth
Lines across the chin
Hollow jaw line
How long do results last?
Results are immediate and will typically last 12 months on average. Once the filler starts to dissipate, you will need to book an appointment. Most people who get fillers will need at least one follow-up injection within a year.
Are dermal fillers painful?
Discomfort during your injection is minimal. The area can also be numbed with a topical anesthetic cream or cold pack before injection, so you may not feel much pain, if any. You will experience a slight sting as the needle enters the injection site. Most patients tolerate the treatment with no pain medication. However, additional pain management options are available.
What is recovery like after dermal filler?
Dermal fillers require very minimal downtime, allowing patients to return to work and their normal activities directly following treatment. For the first 24 hours, it’s a good idea to refrain from strenuous activities and excessive sun or heat exposure. Staying hydrated is also essential.
